Since moving to Lewiston, I've had an itch to see Vancouver, British Columbia since my college roommate, Leanne always told me how beautiful it is! So Aaron and I decided our 2nd anniversary would be a good excuse to go! We met up with Leanne and her husband, Nathan, on our 1st day - they were great tour guides! They took us to Stanley Park in downtown Vancouver where we had a picnic and took a bide ride around the SeaWall right on the coast line.
(You can click on any photo if you would like to see it larger)
What a cute couple!
That's right - we rode tandem!
Snuck this one in while they weren't looking!
Saturday night we had a delicious dinner at Queen Elizabeth Park then played a fierce game of frisbee at the temple. Well, what else do you do when the temple is closed? Too bad I don't have any fun frisbee pictures!
On Sunday, Leanne let me teach her fun Young Women. It was fun, but I admit I missed my beehives! After church we took a drive on the Sea to Sky Highway - which was a great drive in and of itself - to Shannon Falls. The thing I loved most about Vancouver was that it was a perfect mix of mountains and ocean. It was very green, and had lots of beautiful coastline!
They are just one of those ridiculously good looking couples! We had a blast with them!
And sorry for the photo overload, but we are loving learning more and more about photography! This was a fun trip to test out all the things we've learned.
The beach!
On Sunday night we made these fun mugs using sharpies. Sadly, I don't think the marker will stay permanently. But it was one of the Pinterest projects we had to try! Aaron's mug shows the Lion's Gate Bridge, us laying out for a picnic, the cityscape, and us on a tandem bike. That kid gets creative when he wants to! Mine shows a lighthouse & the ferry ride that we took the following day.
VERY early on Monday morning (who gets up early on vacation? oh yeah, the Bairds do...) we said goodbye to a sleepy Leanne and headed off on the next leg of our adventure. We took the earliest ferry from Vancouver to Vancouver Island - it was a 1 1/2 hour ride and the views were great!
Aaron took this awesome shot of a lighthouse on one of the tiny island on the way over.
After arriving, our 1st stop was the Butchart Gardens! We just loved this place. We figured we would spend about 2 hours there - that turned into 3 1/2 very quickly! It was the perfect time of year to visit since all the tulips were in season. I may do another post with just flower pictures, we both had a blast taking photos here.
the "money" shot :) But Aaron hates it when I brighten up the colors on photoshop, so here's the original too:
"The Sunken Garden" It was pretty much all tulips, with a few daffodils hiding out. I think we took pictures of just about every flower there - it was pretty amazing.
After we left Butchart Gardens, we headed down to Victoria, about an hour south. We checked out the Maritime Museum of British Columbia -- lots of nautical artifacts and cool history about the shipping industry! (Okay, you got me, this place was definitely my pick! Gotta squeeze some history into our vacations.) And it was a bonus because the building was once the Supreme Court House, so on the top floor we got to check out the old court room.
This boat was originally a hand-carved canoe that was later converted and eventually made a round-the-world journey in the early 1900s
That evening we went out to a nearby lighthouse and got some fun sunset pictures :) It sure was cold though!
The next day we headed back over on the ferry to Vancouver and went kayaking! This was one of my favorite parts of our trip. We kayaked for 2 hours out around a few tiny islands at Deep Cove. This was the actual day of our anniversary so we had a romantic dinner at McDonalds! We were in a hurry because we had appointments to get massages, so we didn't have much time for dinner. Nothing says love like a McChicken.
Our final stop was at Capilano Suspension Bridge. We were surprised by how awesome this place was. To sum it up -- it was basically like a giant tree fort with bridges from tree to tree. The first was a huge long suspension bridge, then there were others that connected a series of trees, all above a very green canyon with a river down below. I was in heaven. Who doesn't love climbing trees? Well here's a photo overload so you can feel like you were there with us:
Again- Aaron wants me to post the un-photoshopped version of this picture - "the real us":
Had to steal a kiss!
If you look closely, you can see me in this one
That's right- Aaron liked it so much he bought a T-Shirt!!! We all know how big a deal that is!
Happy 2 years, dear!
