the Birthday Girl

Whoa! I'm a Quarter of a Century old!

So to celebrate, I thought I would do something a little extra special.  I decided to do 25 random acts of kindness since I'm turning the big 2-5.  I can't take credit for the idea though, I decided to do this after seeing a few awesome blogs where other people had done this project. And I'm so glad I did!  Here's my 25 RAOKs:

1.  Gave Blood.  The guy there was really sweet and knew that I was afraid of needles.  He stayed by my side the whole time and talked to me in Spanish, he was great!
2. Left a Thank You note for the lady that cleans our office each weekend.

 3.  Left Coupons in the store next to the products.  Who doesn't love to save $.40 on toilet paper!

4.  Left a tip for the pizza boy.  Granted it was only a $1.00 tip, but normally I wouldn't give one.  But he was nice and asked how my day was going.  I figured he deserved it, and it would probably help him buy his 1st car.

5.  Left a sticky note on the Redbox with coupon codes that will let people rent a movie for free.  I tried to do this while no one was looking, but that thing is always busy!  So I put it up there while a mom and her 3 kids were looking for a movie.  She looked at it for a second and while I was walking away she laughed and said, "That's awesome!"  She had a big smile on her face and it totally made my day.  (the code is BREAKROOM or DVDONME)

6.  I made cupcakes and took them to the little post office in Genesee where my friend, Bonnie works.  I included  a little note that said "Thanks for delivering my mail!"
7,  8, & 9.  I bought 3 big helium star balloons (not sure why I didn't take a picture of this one...) and took them to the Pediatrics floor of the hospital in Lewiston.  I asked the nurse, "Do you know of any sick kids that would like a balloon?"  She smiled real big and she said "I sure do!"  I didn't actually give the balloons out, I let her. I was just happy that they would receive them.

10.  Left quarters in a machine at the laundromat.  There were 3 creepy trucker guys sitting there waiting for their laundry, and I didn't want to get raped, so I did this one as quickly as possible.  thus, no picture.  But I'm sure they enjoyed their free load of laundry, creepy or not.

11.  Called a friend just to catch up.  This one was a little selfish, because I've been wanting to call my friend, Lanae, for a while and I just never made the time.  But it was so good to talk to her, so I'm glad I finally did.

12.  Took cupcakes to the Lewiston Fire Department.  This one was cool.  I pulled up and all the guys were actually outside doing a drill.  They had the ladder of the truck extended and 2 guys were up in the bucket, and about 3 more were on the ground.  One came over and said "Can I help you?"  So I said, "Yeah, I made you guys some cupcakes for being good firemen.  Thanks!"  He loved it and so did the rest of the firemen!  PS - if there's any single ladies looking for some good lookin' men- try the Lewiston Fire Department.  Whoo.
13.  Bought someone dinner.  Near Walmart there are almost always homeless people holding up signs  that say "Need Help" or "God Bless," every once in a while I'll give them a little money, but not usually.  Well Yesterday, there was a lady with a sign that said "Just hungry." So I went to McDonalds next door and bought her a chicken sandwinch meal with a drink and extra chicken nuggets because I bet she was sure hungry.  She was so grateful.  She sat down right there and started eating.  It just about broke my heart.

14.  I bought a small bouquet of flowers- about 6 orange lillies from Walmart that were about $5.00.  I took them to the Nursing Home.  Unfortunately they were in the middle of having dinner, so I just left the flowers with a nurse there.  I asked her to give them to someone who maybe didn't get a lot of visitors.  She said, "Oh, I know exactly who I'll give them to.  And today's her birthday!"  So that totally made my day, having found someone that I shared a birthday with who was lonely.
15.  Wrote a letter to a friend.  And the winner was.... my good friend from Jacob Lake and college, Jenn Bravo (Banfield).  It's been way too long since I've heard from her.  She is an AMAZING person, and I needed to remind her of that.
16.  Took cupcakes to our landlord, Gary.  He's great.

17.  Bought some OJ for AJ.  He was sick as a dog this weekend, so he needed some extra vitamin C.  I also made him breakfast on my birthday, so that's got to count for somethin!

18.  I wanted to try and open doors for people all day long, but this was a hard one to accomplish!  I never realized that almost every door is automatic anymore!  Finally, at the end of the day, I said a prayer that I could find people in need of service.  And finally I found a door that needed opening for a few ladies that were so sweet and said thank you.

19.  Donated a bag of clothes that I don't wear anymore to the Salvation Army.  I also gave a few items to the family of one of my Beehives, since I'm just about the same size (height) as all of my 12-14 year olds!

20.  At the gas station there was a lady with 2 little girls.  She took them both inside to use the bathroom, and she sure had her hands full.  So while she was gone I washed her windshield.  She came back before I finished though, and I could see that she was very grateful.

21. Let someone go ahead of me in line.  I actually had to be sneaky about this one.  I offered to a couple people at different stores, and no one would accept my offer. I'm trying to be kind here people!

22. I tried really hard all day to be kind to people.  I smiled at everyone and chatted with my cashiers.  Sometimes a friendly face goes a long ways.

23. This morning Aaron and I both had to go to Ward Council since the Elder's Quorum & YW Presidents both couldn't make it.  So I took cinnamon rolls for everyone there.  The elders sure appreciated it!
24.    Took a lost toddler to the nursury.  His mom was clear on the other side of the Church looking for him.  This one was easy though, cuz he was such a cutie!

25.   Told my YW advisor that I love her.  I really do, she does an amazing job teaching our beehives and just always being there to support me.  She's 1 in a million.

I tried to do a few other things that fell through.  Like I tried to walk dogs at the animal shelter and they wouldn't let me unless I attended their "volunteer orientation" held once a month.  I just want to help out people!  I also tried to return carts in parking lots, but I didn't see any that were out of the Cart Return.  Way to go people  of Lewiston :)

But I felt totally spoiled on my birthday.  It seems like everyone remembered my birthday and went out of their way to call, text, or bring a gift by.  I think I probably received just as many acts of kindness as I tried to give out, it was sure humbling.
